"An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it's going to launch you into something great. So just focus, and keep aiming." - Author unknown

The first time I heard this quote, I thought, "Wow. What a powerful statement." As teachers, it's easy to feel bogged down. It never seems like there is enough time to do justice to all parts of the job, much less out of work responsibilities like family. In my world, it feels like every time I get comfortable with one aspect of my job, another part throws me a curveball. For instance, over spring break when most teachers relax and recharge for the home stretch of the school year, our legislature dropped the bomb that they want to change our standards. Each time there is a challenge, I feel pulled back.

It is critical to me to ensure that teachers, myself included, feel like these challenges are just small stumbling blocks, the pull back to be propelled forward, into something better.

Starting a blog has been on my heart for several months. I am going to tackle topics like National Board Certification, student relationships, teen stress, teacher burnout, advocacy, and choosing your battles, among many others. I hope you join me in this journey and learn a few things along the way. I look forward to learning from my readers as well. Best wishes.
